Before He Walked Out My Life

Ever since I was young, Monica has always been one of my favorite singers. I loved everything about Monica from her style to her unforgettable voice. Nearly each song Monica came out with touched me. One song in particular that brings back a lot of memories is “Before You Walk Out My Life.” Each time I hear this song, a flash-back from my past is played over and over again in my mind.

I will never forget the day I saw my first love for the last time. My ex and I had our ups and downs like any relationship. I was a bit younger so I was naïve to how manipulative men could really be. I had just graduated from high school and it was the summer of 2007 when I met my ex. It was extremely embarrassing how I met him. Let’s just say, my mom hooked us up. I fell in love with him at first site and once we officially started dating, I was head over heels for him. We spent a lot of that summer together. I was afraid that once I went to college he would break up with me. He started growing distant towards the end of the summer. He began to stand me up a lot on top of not returning my numerous phone calls. I thought I was being a stalker so I just left it alone for a while. He came around when he wanted and left when he wanted.

The day I was leaving for college, I was very nervous. I have never been away from my mom and did not know what to do. On top of that, I was still devastated that my ex was treating me bad. That morning, to my surprise, he came to drive me up to my school. It was move-in day for the upcoming freshman so I needed the help. While driving on the free-way, he played lots of music. When Monica’s “Before You Walked Out My Life” came on, I fell in love with it instantly.  I cried while listening to it because I felt that Monica was singing this song about me. I loved everything about this song because it was story of my life.

After move-in day, I rarely heard from my ex. I seen him a couple times afterwards, but his lies got the best of me. I was fed up. I gave up on him because I knew he was not the one for me. I will never forget that drive on the free-way.
