First on stage was Adrian Marcel, Raphael Saadiq’s protégé, who repped the Bay area well with an electrifying performance.  Next up was underground fave Mali Music who mixes inspirational storytelling with contemporary R&B. Many of Mali’s fans were in attendance including BET Music Matters alum Bridgette Kelly and Sevyn Streeter who were both seen singing along. Third act, Mack Wilds, performed tracks off his hit, GRAMMY nominated album “New York: A Love Story.” Closing out the show was one of the industry’s best-kept secrets: PJ Morton. He’s been the keyboardist and backing vocalist for Maroon 5 for years, but now, PJ is on his own and nominated for a GRAMMY for “Best R&B Song” for his “Only One” single featuring Stevie Wonder.

The night’s emerging talent was buoyed by industry veterans Salaam Remi, Rico Love and Raphael Saadiq, as well as celebrities and industry tastemakers who were all on hand to show their support of BET Music Matters and the next wave of stars.  The dream team of established talent believe in the Music Matters mission to shine the light on who’s next.  From Kendrick Lamar to LeCrae, you can trust BET Music Matters will recognize and celebrate the talent that means the most to our audience.
