EXCLUSIVE: Marques Houston Talks About His New Album, Career

I have been a fan of Marques Houston since the 90’s.  I had the pleasure to speak with Marques on his new album, tour dates, and his recent movie.  I must say, this is a man of many talents.

Marques just recently did a movie called “Love Letter” also starring Romeo and Keshia Knight Pulliam.  When I asked Marques, do you prefer singing or acting; he responded

“Acting is a challenge.  It is like going to school, but singing is a part of me.”

That being said, what he offers on his sixth album titled ‘Famous‘ will have you wanting to hear more.  Marques says, “I grew up in a musical household.  Musicians that inspired me are Michael Jackson, Prince, and Marvin Gaye

In twelve tracks, Marques sets the album off with his first song “Only You”.  This song with not so subtle nuances of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On,” revamped on an updated track. A tinge of the D’Angelo-esque vibes he speaks of comes into play on “The Way Love Is” and “Leaving My Girl,” -both will have you taking the word love to a whole new level.

But the set isn’t without its bedroom tracks; both the title cut “Famous” and “Make It Last Forever” get intimate. The ballad “Lifetime” is fitting to play in gratitude for redemption after a stint in the doghouse, and the set closes with the modern, moody track “Fly Away.”

All the cuts stay on a mid to slow-tempo, and Houston makes use of his soaring falsetto on pretty much every song.

Famous is available now in stores, and on I-Tunes.  Also be on the lookout for future tour dates from Mr. Marques Houston himself.    You can keep up by following him on Twitter @ marqueshouston, Facebook and Instagram @Marcus Houston and www.marqueshoustononline.com.
