Fergie Apologizes for National Anthem Performance: “I’m a Risk Taker Artistically”

Fergie took a lot of heat after her slowed-down/jazzy take on “The Star-Spangled Banner” Sunday night, including many celebrities in the audience chuckling at her.

Fergie told TMZ, “I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA. I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.”

Mariah Carey, who is no stranger to live performance backlashes was asked about the advice she would give to Fergie. Mariah replied, “Darling, no one needs to listen to that.”
