September 30, 2014 – New York, NY – Kandace Springs’ self-titled debut EP was released today by Blue Note Records together with SRP Music Group. It is available HERE. Springs will make her national television debut on “Late Show with David Letterman” this Friday, October 3, performing “Love Got In The Way,” the EP’s first single. The video for “Love Got In The Way” can be viewed HERE. Springs will perform at an exclusive, invitation-only EP release concert tonight at The Box in New York City.

Chance The Rapper has tapped Kandace as an opener for several stops on the fall 2014 Verge Campus tour, including last night’s show at UCLA and a pair of East Coast dates in early October. Springs will support Ne-Yo on his upcoming North American tour, which kicks off on October 12 at The Warfield in San Francisco and includes two nights at the House of Blues in Los Angeles (October 15 and 16). See below for itinerary. She opened for Luke James during his recent two-night stand at SOB’s in NYC.

Born and raised in Nashville, Kandace captured the attention of SRP Music Group’s Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken with one of her early demos. Rogers flew to Nashville, eager to sign her, but Springs, who was only 17 at the time, opted to finish high school first and did double-duty as a parking valet/lounge singer at a local hotel for a time. She moved to New York City several years later and commenced working with Rogers and Sturken, who have written hits for such artists as Shakira, Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson, and are best known for discovering a teenage Rihanna. Springs co-wrote the EP’s first single, “Love Got In The Way,” and the sultry “Forbidden Fruit,” with Sturken and Rogers, who produced the two tracks with Eli Wolf. “West Coast” and “Meet Me In The Sky” were produced by Philadelphia and Los Angeles-based team Pop & Oak (Nicki Minaj, Drake, Alicia Keys), who co-wrote these songs with Kandace.

Springs tells her story in this short video clip, which serves as an introduction to an artist hailed as a “suave songstress” by The Wall Street Journal. Essence named her a “New & Next” artist and Entertainment Weekly praised “West Coast” as “buoyant neosoul that combines a rollicking horn arrangement and a bumping rap beat.” Afropunk.com, enamored of the funky “Love Got In The Way,” said, “Groove to this!” while RyanSeacrest.com noted, “The 23-year-old manages to carry out her mission statement of bridging classic soul with hip-hop by syncing her nostalgic vocals with record scratches and underground beats.”
