THROWBACK THURSDAYS: EnVogue ‘Giving Him Something He Can Feel’

Before Destiny had a child and Sister With Voices could sing, EnVogue dominated the music scene with their sophicated reincarnation of talent, fashion and sexiness girl groups from a previous doo-wop era displayed. These four ladies set the standard for all groups  and continued to blaze the trail for female groups.

In the 90’s Cindy Herron-Braggs, Maxine Jones, Dawn Robinson and Terry Ellis were the original lineup who produced such hits as “Hold On,” “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It)” and “Free Your Mind. After several conservative top charting singles and nearly dominating the R&B scene, the group collided into some legal matters.

In 2006 En Vogue became a limited liability company and members entered into a written operating agreement. But in 2012 Robinson had left the group ant the other three remained at odds over management. On one side, Braggs and Ellis insisted upon using their man. while Jones wanted her own and refused bookings. As a result, the group lost bookings, and so Braggs and Ellis replaced Jones with another performer. Then, Jones and Robinson started appearing together also touring under the EnVogue name.

With all the confusion of two different EnVogue groups touring, Braggs and Ellis decided to sue former members Robinson and Jones for $1 million in damages and touring while EV names which is illegal since they are the ones who own the LLC.

In April 2013 the presiding  judge recently sided with Cindy and Terry — giving them the name — but said the duo failed to prove damages, and were awarded no money.

It is definitely a sad day in music when a legendary group like EnVogue ends in such a tragic manner. For Throwback Thursday lets remember the good times we had with EnVogue and watch “Somehthing He Can feel”
