Youtube’s Hottest!

Most viewed R&B songs of 2017

The end of 2017 draws near, and with it is time to look back and appreciate the songs that change the music landscape. To create a list of the top 5 R&B/Rap songs of this year, some people will use their musical taste. And that is not a wrong approach. It is highly subjective because it leaves room for a lot of argument and bad feelings between fans bases. So, instead, it is better to let the market decide. There is no better benchmark to determine which were the best R&B/Rap songs of 2017, than by using YouTube. The view counts the impartial judge that will decide who will be in or out of this year’s list.

Kendrick Lamar – HUMBLE.

347 million views

Released Mar 30th, 2017, Kendrick Lamar rose through the ranks faster than his career. Humble is a masterfully crafted song that is complemented by a marvellously created video. Directed by Dave Meyers & the little homies, the music video borrows several of themes from Catholicism and urban life. Lamar is seen wearing the holy garments as well playing Jesus in a recreation of the last supper. Honestly, a remarkable video that blends the music with the photography in a seamless manner.

Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa & Imagine Dragons w/ Logic & Ty Dolla $ign ft X Ambassadors – SUCKER FOR PAIN.

473 million views

The first collaboration from the list is also one of the most creative ones. Sucker for Pain was written for the Suicide Squad soundtrack, and the video heavily borrows from the film. Ty Dolla $ign lies in the same jail that once incarcerated Harley Quinn. Logic does a superb job to portrait a maniac trapped in Arkham. And the rest of the stars bring the danger and fear that perfectly blends with the spirit of the movie. The video does a fantastic job of portraying the evil minds locked inside Belle Reve Prison. A much better job than Suicide Squad ever did.

DJ Khaled ft. Rihanna, Bryson Tiller – WILD THOUGHTS.

478 million views

Now we move from the dangers of Belle Reve Prison to the tropical flavours of Barbados. Rihanna brings that tropical heat that has always characterised the tropic to the music video. Moreover, the cinematography showcases a sexy version of life in the Caribbean. It is the ideal blend between hot lyrics and an even steamier video. It may be little to say beyond those words, but that is because Rihanna is the star of the video, and it is impossible to think otherwise.

Post Malone ft. Quavo – CONGRATULATIONS.

490 million views

The YouTube megastar and seven times certified platinum artist, Post Malone, created a music video that reflects his personality. Congratulations start with a simple shot of Malone gathering in a studio with Quavo and other friends. From there it swaps shots of a simple background with Malone alone, or Malone with Quavo and their friends, and images back to the studio. It is simple in production, but director James DeFina understood that, sometimes, the best thing to do in a music video nothing at all. All you need to do is let the music be.

DJ Khaled ft. Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper, Lil Wayne – I’M THE ONE.

776 million views

If there is one thing that you cannot fault DJ Khaled for, is creating bad videos. The most viewed music video of 2017 in the R&B/Rap category will go to his collaboration with several mega starts. Directed by Eif Riviera, the video takes place in DJ Khaled’s house. The location switch between a stunning garden, the deck and croquet area, and the swimming pool. Every single music start takes his turn to showcase their talents. And if that is not enough, Riviera also made sure to cast a plethora of attractive women that matches message the lyrics are trying to convey.
