The 40/40 CLUB, an all-American sports bar and lounge owned by hip hop mogul Jay-Z and partner Juan Perez, opened its doors to the public on June 18, 2003. Created by the longtime friends, the club is 12,000 square feet of pure sports and entertainment in an opulent lounge setting that combines the lavish warmth of a New York City penthouse with the vivacity and glamour of courtside seats at a championship game.
I love sports and wanted to create an environment that is conducive to match my lifestyle, while watching the games at the same time, said Jay-Z.
The recent $10 million dollar renovation and expansion of The 40/40 Club draws inspiration from the grandeur and opulence of New York City nightlife.
The multi-level space includes a custom 20’ x 20’ illuminated resin top bar encircling an 18-foot tall illuminated champagne tower. A new second floor ‘catwalk’ allows guests to circumnavigate the ‘scene’, and relax at the semi private second floor mezzanine bar and seating area. The space also includes over 30 55in flat screen monitors and a one-of-a-kind jersey hall of fame featuring the 40/40 club members.

The 40/40 Club is named after one of baseball’s most prestigious achievements.A benchmark for power and speed, The 40/40 Club includes players who hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in one season. Only Barry Bonds (1996), Alex Rodriguez (1998), Jose Canseco (1988), and Alfonso Soriano (2006) can call The 40/40 Club home. The four jerseys of these men grace an area of our “Hall of Fame” to honor their great accomplishment.
When we were thinking of a name, we wanted something exclusive. The 40/40 Club in baseball is as exclusive as it gets, said Jay-Z.
The decor of The 40/40 Club is a mix of memorabilia from this country’ss greatest games coupled with Manhattan sophistication. The “Hall of Fame” connects the main floor with the upstairs VIP rooms and houses autographed jerseys donatedby various sports celebrities. The jerseys hang museum style, as well as decoratepoints of the lounges along with other sports memorabilia, such as the autographed gloves from the 1974 “Fight of the Century”: Ali vs. Frazier and the WWF championship belt of Kurt Angle.
We tried to create a place that would be favorable to both men and women, and we think we have found it with the combination of sports and an upscale hip lounge, said owner Juan Perez.
Executive Chef, and Jay-Z’s personal chef, Mike Shand created a new menu that is sure to please both the sports fan and the casual diner. Guests will be enticed by the upscale traditional American sports bar cuisine, done with a twist. Current menu selections include traditional Buffalo wings, our famous 40/40 club sliders served with our own signature 40/40 sauce, mouth-watering sandwiches and salads, as well as a variety of entrée items and a mix of tasty mini desserts including house-made Bannoffe pie & our warm Pineapple Upside down cake.
