It’s been a while since we heard any new music from Amel Larrieux. Outside of a few singles, the R&B songstress has kept quiet until now. She just released the uptempo ballad ‘Afraid,’ and it sounds fantastic.
Those yearning for some smooth R&B music will love this song. It’s fun and infectious.
On the track, produced by her husband, Laru Larrieux, the former Groove Theory artist sings about being in cardiac arrest when she spots a handsome guy who makes her heart skip a beat.
“I want to feel your pulse / Beating inside mine / Want you to press against me / And baby, don’t you die,” she sings as her vocals caresse the head-nodding beat.
“Call me afraid / You’re so fine sometimes I forget to breathe / Call me afraid / Wherever you are is wherever I have to be,” she later sings on the chorus.
Somebody call a love doctor, Larrieux needs mouth-to mouth resuscitation. Stat!
Love and health issues aside, Larrieux has crafted a love jam that’s perfect for the summer season. We suggest playing this song on a warm romantic night with your lover.
No word if ‘Afraid’ will appear on her new project, ‘Ice Cream Every Day,’ which is still a work-in-progress. If the music on the album sounds anything like this new song, then we want Amel Larrieux to give us that flavor in our ears.
Take a listen and tell us what you think.
