It’s been seven years since Amy Winehouse passed away but she can never be forgotten. Her music was like no other and still nobody has been able to match it! With that being said, we couldn’t be more excited to have the opportunity to hear a demo from 17-year old Amy.
The demo, “My Own Way,” was recorded in 2001, before Amy was signed or released any major albums. The song–written by Gil Cang and James McMillan– was recorded by Amy and was due to be a part of a collection of tracks to play for labels.
“We’d been writing quite a lot of pop tunes, doing a lot of pop promos with various artists who would come in, many of various, dubious talent,” Cang explained to Camden New Journal. “It was at a particularly dire time in the pop world—lots of terrible, terrible girl bands and boy bands and we had to make something for them. Amy came in to see us, opened her mouth and just blew us all away.”
When asked why he was releasing the demo now, Cang stated, “I’ve had it knocking about for so long. I found it again last week and thought—I’ll put it out there so people could hear it.”
