Jill Scott no longer supports Bill Cosby, ‘completely disgusted’

Singer Jill Scott, who defended Bill Cosby despite countless allegations that he drugged and sexually assaulted women, says she no longer stands by the comedian.

On Monday, Scott tweeted that she defended Cosby because there was no concrete evidence against him. She said after reading newly released court documents, she can no longer support the comedian.

“About Bill Cosby. Sadly his testimony offers proof of terrible deeds, which is all I have ever required believing the accusations,” Scott said in a tweet.

According to documents obtained by the Associated Press, Cosby, 77, admitted in a 2005 court deposition that he obtained Quaaludes with the intent of administering them to women he wanted to have sex with.

In December, Scott called the allegations against Cosby “insane” and as proof of his character, pointed out that the star has donated millions to charity throughout his career.

Scott said she initially refused to believe the allegations, because so many “African American men are detained and or imprisoned for crimes without evidence.” She said “the sworn testimony is proof,” and added she was “completely disgusted.”

“I stood by a man I respected and loved. I was wrong. It hurts!” Scott said.

In Hollywood, others who were critical of Cosby, questioned whether the victims would finally receive justice. Filmmaker Judd Apatow tweeted, “Now can we all stand up and support the victims? Will silence continue?”

Cosby has not released a statement since the court documents were released on Monday.
