Miguel Pimentel, just Miguel on stage, clearly didn’t get the “love thy fellow singer” memo.
The Adorn artist, who is regularly compared to artists such as Frank Ocean and The Weeknd, recently caused a Twitter storm in a teacup.
During an interview with the UK’s Sunday Times, Miguel said: “To be completely honest – and no disrespect to anyone – I genuinely believe that I make better music, all the way around.”
Even though he didn’t specifically mention Ocean or The Weeknd, it was clear who he was referring to. Ocean’s fans’ response was swift and harsh.
In a half-hearted about-turn following the backlash, Miguel attempted to “clear the air” blaming his comment on his competitiveness.
“Yes, I am competitive; we all have to have a level of competitiveness to put ourselves on the line day in and day out. But I also believe there is room for all artists,” he said.
Miguel released his third album, Wildheart, at the end of last month.
