Breast Cancer Awareness: Ambassadors

Breast Cancer Month

Breast Cancer Awareness Month, held around the world each year on October, helps to increase awareness and support for awareness raising, early detection, treatment and palliative care. This month is one of the most important because of this, there are lots of women struggling with this disease, and it helps let them know that they are not alone. That’s why there are also some starts who work as ambassadors to make awareness of this severe and mortal disease.

Stars who work as ambassadors for breast cancer awareness

We have some names of stars who work as ambassadors for this campaign this month. Women who have put their hearts on this cause for several years and continue to do it as if it was the first time. They motivate us to join this cause; strong and independent women who convey the message to those who need it and create awareness of the greatness of the situation.

Fergie

The former member of “The Black Eyed Peas”, who continues rising and has participated in several films, including the musical “Nine.” A few years ago, the star used her creativity in shoe design, devising a charity collection. The money raised from its sale went to support the fight against Breast Cancer. A total of 100,000 pairs designed by Fergie will go on sale to help this cause. This year Fergie is coming back and has announced that she is still willing to raise awareness and give her full support during the month.

Christina Applegate

Another star who detected cancer in time because she was always aware of her health since her mother suffered from this same illness. Through the BRCA genetic test, Christina Applegate learned that she had the cancer gene activated and decided to undergo a bilateral mastectomy. She created the “The Right Action for Women” foundation to help low-income women for breast cancer screening. The charity is still working, even this month, that’s why we always consider this woman as an ambassador.

Cynthia Nixon

One of the protagonists of “Sex and the City”, kept silent her illness to avoid being harassed by the paparazzi. She was diagnosed in 2006, and for six and a half weeks she received radiation therapy after a lumpectomy, a surgery that removes an entire tumour but saves most of the breast tissue. Both the grandmother and the mother of Cynthia Nixon had Breast Cancer, the reason why Cynthia was practising mammograms since her 35’s. She joined Susan G. Komen for the Cure to help women with this disease.

Sheryl Crow

And last, we’ve got Sheryl Crow. In February 2006, the singer cancelled her commitments to undergo a mastectomy and radiation therapy for a breast tumour. She surpassed cancer, and as a survivor of this disease, she opened the Sheryl Crow Imaging Center to prevent and assist women with breast cancer, and this fund is still active.

All the actions that are put into practice to fight against Breast Cancer generate awareness about the prevention of the disease or its early detection, must reach the highest possible media visibility. It is therefore essential to have the support of a celebrity committed to the cause, to attract the attention of the media and the public. The message, in this way, will reach a broader range of receivers.
