Tricia Battani’s Debut Single “Dear Mr. Scrooge” Makes Us Fall in Love With Christmas

Tricia Battani serenades Ebenezer (and us!) with her debut single, Dear Mr. Scrooge. “I just wanna give you Christmas love / I know you been thinkin’ bah humbug / Dare you to let me give you a hug / I bet I can make you fall in love with Christmas.” And, boy, does she!

When asked to write a song for possible inclusion on the recently released Braxton Family Christmas album, Tricia and her co-writers, Nick Battani and Stephanie Carlisi, put their heads together to come up with an inspiring and unique concept, tapping into the age-old spirit of giving at Christmas.

The idea was to write an uplifting song for people who feel blue over the holidays, and what better muse than Charles Dickens’ iconic character, Mr. Bah Humbug himself, from the classic, A Christmas Carol.

When producer and self-proclaimed Christmas-lover, G’harah “PK” Degeddingseze (Chris Brown’s “Fine China”), heard the rough idea for the song, he composed music on cue. From there, the song practically wrote itself. Tricia believed in the song’s message so much that, when it didn’t make it onto the Braxtons’ album, she was ecstatic to release it herself.

Throwing-back to the 90’s style of R&B music on which she grew up, the songstress uses her sultry vocals and signature gift of harmony to persuade Ebenezer to change his way of thinking.

“Ebenezer, all the money in the world won’t please ya / So why you holding on so tight? / Ebenezer, all the money in the world won’t please ya / Or keep you warm at night / So, don’t be afraid to hand it all away / The gift is in the giving / That’s all you gotta do / It’s coming back to you / That’s when you’ll start living.”

In today’s competitive, money-driven society, even Christmas can take on the feel of: sell…sell…sell…buy…buy…buy. “Dear Mr. Scrooge” is a beautiful reminder to us all that sharing the love and abundance with which we humans are blessed, and being of service to each other, is the best way to cure the holiday blues.

Spread this positivity by sharing “Dear Mr. Scrooge” with anyone and everyone you know. Let’s make this holiday season the brightest and most joyous one to date. God Bless Us, Everyone.
