San Diego Police Investigate Assault Accusation Against Laker Star Kobe Bryant

San Diego police confirm they are investigating allegations of assault involving Lakers star Kobe Bryant.

While a police spokesperson would not reveal details of the alleged incident Tuesday, the LA Times reports Bryant grabbed a man’s wrist while attending church in Carmel Valley Sunday. Bryant reportedly got irritated when a young man tried to take his image with a cell phone.

When asked for comment, an SDPD spokesperson said they have assigned an investigator to the case and have no other comment.

However, the LA Times and a local television station report Bryant grabbed the man’s phone, checked for pictures and handed it back.

The man later went to a hospital with what was described as “minor wrist sprain” the Times reported.

The official told NBCSanDiego they don’t normally comment on misdemeanor investigations.

“Mr. Bryant is aware of the baseless allegations asserted against him, and is prepared to defend against them fully,” Bryant lawyer Mark Campbell of Loeb & Loeb LLP said in a statement.

The church involved is St. Therese of Carmel Church. Staffers at the church had no comment on the investigation.
