R. Kelly Sings About Surgery, Tells Critics to ‘Shut Up’ on New Track

After undergoing throat surgery in July and apparently being doubted by each and every one of the haters, R. Kelly has triumphantly returned to the microphone to tell his apparent critics, succinctly, “Shut Up.” The R&B vet posted the new song on his Twitter account early on Thursday (Nov. 10)

“It’s been a long time coming but I finally feel a lot better about my throat since the surgery and this is the first song I wrote,” Kelly posted to introduce the new track. Over its 4 minutes and 4 seconds, “Shut Up” takes aim at the “tsunami of rumors had come to wipe my career away” while he was awaiting his surgery. “Now seriously, after all these hits, and melodies, and memories, you compare me to someone else? O-M-G/No offense to the other artists, but come on darlin’, let’s be honest: how many babies been made off me? O-M-G,” he vents.

“Shut Up” offers some fantastic insight into the inner working of Robert Kelly’s mind, but fans will have to wait until in spring 2012 to get the full story in his autobiography, “Soula Coaster: The Diary of Me.” “I’m tired of being misunderstood,” Kelly wrote in the autobiography’s 2009 press release. “I will show you the tears, fears, and sweat. I will open my heart and reveal the good in my life as well as all the drama. I want to tell it like it is.”
